During this event, attendees will be part of a thought-provoking roundtable discussion where we discuss how we unknowingly, can undermine our loved one’s end-of-life wishes by calling 911 or performing CPR. We’ll discuss how to be prepared, rather than panicked. What happens when someone dies and 911 is called, but the person didn't want CPR? How can you best ensure that your wishes are respected and how best to communicate those wishes.
Who should attend? The “WE” in our “We Wish We Knew That!” roundtables invites individuals with a stake in these conversations (now or in the future) including, but not limited to:
Family members, neighbors, caregivers
Individuals with a life-limiting or terminal diagnosis
Individuals who have agreed to be someone’s Medical Power of Attorney
End-of-Life / Death Doulas
EMT’s
Medical Students
Hospice Professionals and Volunteers
Anyone updating their Advance Directive or supporting someone that is.
Let’s lean into these conversations together. The more we have these discussions, the more “muscle memory” we’ll gain for when decisions need to be made under less calm circumstances.
ABOUT OUR ROUNDTABLE PARTICIPANTS:
Eric Jaeger is an attorney, paramedic and EMS educator. He holds a Bachelor of Science from MIT and a Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School. Eric is also an American Heart Association CPR teaching faculty. For ten years, he was the EMS educator at the Exeter Hospital emergency department. He lectures frequently, including at national and state conferences, including on issues related to DNR and Advanced Directives.
Kate Tuttle is an APRN-CNP (Advanced Practice Registered Nurse-Certified Nurse Practitioner) with over ten years of experience in palliative care and hospice. Additionally, she is a Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse who is passionate about end-of-life planning and goals of care discussions. Having worked in hospitals, Kate has witnessed resuscitation attempts and ICU outcomes, emphasizing the importance of clear decision-making and proper documentation for those wishing for a natural death. She is dedicated to helping patients and families navigate these difficult conversations and ensuring that individuals’ wishes are respected.

Laura Cleminson, is the Founder of the Pre-Dead Social Club. INELDA-trained death doula, hospice volunteer and Member of the NH Health Care Decisions Coalition. She believes unless we create consistent, opportunities for people to come together (before a crisis or a serious diagnosis) to explore and better understand the process of dying and death a peaceful, final exit will remain elusive. We can do so much better when it comes to reducing the amount of personal and emotional toll taken on people dying, their families, those who care for them, and our medical community at large.
